This sets the maximum number of frames to be accumulated in Linear, Histogram, or PSTH modes. In Exponential mode it sets the effective time constant of the running average.

The total frames accumulated at any time are shown in the Total Frames Counter beneath the Averager button.

Hitting Pause at any time will suspend the accumulation of averager frames and freeze the display until unPause. It has no effect on the input or output signals.

In Linear or Exponential modes, noise reduction is proportional to the square root of the number of frames. To cut the noise in half (6 dB reduction) you thus need to quadruple the number of frames; doubling only provides about 30% (3 dB) improvement.
