Voice Synthesizer Problems

If you use a voice synthesizer to read the screen, and you only have a single sound card in your system, it most likely uses the same Wave output that the Generator uses. This results in the two signals being mixed together, usually with very unsatisfactory results.

In addition, since there is only a single Wave Mute on the sound card, it mutes both processes. If the Generator Auto-Mute option has been checked in Run Preferences, the Wave output will be muted whenever the Generator is off... meaning the voice synthesizer will be muted as well.

Further, Windows typically reserves some of the sound card output range for each application, which can result is calibration problems.

The ideal situation is to have a separate sound card for each device, so they don't have to share. You can select which device Daqarta will use via the Sound Card Device Selects in the Start Preferences dialog. (Note that Start Preferences don't take effect until the next Daqarta session.) If your system doesn't have a second sound card, you might consider an inexpensive USB device for this purpose. See Sound Card Performance Tests for some examples.
