Use Vol Steps / dB

Macro: UseCal

The default is Use Vol Steps, with Use dB and the other options disabled until you have calibrated your system. In this mode, the main Generator Volume control shows only the current step number of the Wave attenuator. The button between the Left and Right controls is labeled 'Vol' and opens a volume slider dialog with separate sliders for each channel of both Wave and Master.

After calibration, you may want to set 'Use dB'. This will allow Daqarta to use both Wave and Master attenuators together in a coordinated manner to obtain the widest possible control range. The 'Vol' button changes to 'dB', and the volume slider dialog it opens contains a single pair of Left and Right sliders. These control both Wave and Master together, in a coordinated fashion, to cover the widest possible attenuation range in a continuous fashion.

When Use dB is active, the Use Level control is enabled, which enables much finer resolution than can be obtained from the attenuators alone.

However, there may be times when you want separate controls for Wave and Master. This might arise when Master is also used by another program running at the same time, in which case you may want to Daqarta to use only Wave. In that case you can toggle back to Use Vol Steps as described above.

Macro Notes:

UseCal=Vsteps or UseCal=0 sets Use Vol Steps, and UseCal=dB or UseCal=1 sets Use dB.

The Attenuator Options dialog does not have to be open to use these commands. If the Volume or dB Slider dialog is open it will be replaced with the one for the new state.
