GlossyInst.TXT List of Selected Musical Instruments

GlossyInst.TXT is a list of tonal musical instruments which have been selected from the complete AllInst.TXT list of 128 instruments shown in the General MIDI Instrument Sounds. This list is used by GlossyTracks and by the Music_from_Anything macro mini-app.

The selection process used listening tests of random instruments via GlossyTracks. Those chosen were deemed the most musically-useful instruments... ones that wouldn't mess up an otherwise good performance. But that's a matter of taste... always a contentious area when it comes to music. You may want to add some of the 11 excluded ones, like Gunshot or Helicopter, to spice up a performance. Or Bagpipe or Shanai, for ethnic flavor. (Note that Music_from_Anything allows you to force any instrument, without modifying the list.)

This list also appears as the GlossyInst.TXT file in the Documents - Daqarta - User_Data - MIDI_Setup folder, as noted in the List Of Included Daqarta Files.

The excluded instruments appear with a semicolon in the first column to indicate a comment line that should be ignored. Their names are shown in italics here to make them more obvious, but not in the actual text file. (Plain ASCII text doesn't support italics.)
